Before today’s race, at the Autodromo do Algarve in Portimao, Orelac Racing VerdNatura riders Fahmi Khairuddin and Nacho Calero knew that they would be in for a difficult time because of their grid positions. Fahmi started in 19th place and Nacho 29th. Unfortunately Nacho was forced to retire, with an electrical problem, after just three laps. Fahmi battled away but wasn’t able to make a big improvement and finished 17th.
Fahmi – 17th
“I didn’t make a great start but I managed to keep my position and not lose places. I had a good feeling with the bike, but I wasn’t able to do enough to get past a lot of riders – especially in the last corner. It was a difficult race and I nearly crashed a few times, but I kept pushing as hard as I could. I expected to get some points today, so to finish 17th was a disappointment. Now I am looking forward to the next race and getting a good result.”
Nacho – DNF
“When you only do three laps there is not much you can say. My bike suffered the same electrical problem as yesterday and I had to retire from the race. I am sure that the team will fix the problem before the next round and give me a chance to chase a result.”
