Nearly! :: Orelacracing

The last race of the 2017 season nearly ended on a high for Orelac Racing VerdNatura. Fahmi Khairuddin was on course for maybe his best finish of the year until a crash put paid to his plans.  His team mate Nacho Calero had a bit of a problematic race and ended 17th.

Fahmi Khairuddin – 19th

“I made a really good start and managed to pass quite a few riders early on. I had a very good feeling with the bike and was happy that I was able to really go for it. It took a while to pass Baldolini and then I pushed hard to catch the riders ahead. I think I was in 14th place and felt that I could get further up, but then I crashed at turn 6. I picked the bike up and continued the race because I wanted to bring the bike home. It is a shame that I couldn’t finish the race today because I felt that I was on for a good result. I would like to thank Jose, Giulio and everybody at Orelac for giving me this opportunity and making it such a great experience. As a team, we shared our ups and downs but we were always together. I think Orelac have the ability to do well next year and would like to wish them all the best.”

Nacho Calero – 17th

“My start was not so bad. Unfortunately I went straight on at the first corner on lap 3 and lost touch with the group that were 10th to 15th. I had a bit of a problem with the rear suspension and had very little grip at all. By this time, I was well out of the points - because of the problems. I want to thank the team for all their hard work this year. There were a few problems, but we always tried to fight as a team.”

Giulio Bardi (Team Manager)

“First and foremost I would like to thank all the people who have supported us in the good times and also the difficult times.  They made it possible to compete in the best playground. Some of these people started as colleagues, but they have become friends and part of the Orelac family.This season has not been an easy one, so I would like to thank the team for their ‘never give up’ attitude which made it possible to overcome the difficulties.  This was an emotional race for us because Fahmi will not be with us next year. We learnt to appreciate his talent over the past two years – not just as a rider – but also as a person. He became part of the family and will always be welcome. We wanted to finish on a high note, but it didn’t happen. So now we will move on to face an even bigger challenge next season. It’s going to be exciting times ahead playing with the big boys and we’re all ready looking forward to it.”
