The penultimate round of this year’s World Supersport Championship was a disappointing one for Orelac Racing VerdNatura riders Fahmi Khairuddin and Nacho Calero. Fahmi started well and was heading into the points, but then suffered traction problems after five or six laps. Nacho’s race lasted nine laps before a crash put paid to his plans.
Fahmi Khairuddin - 19th
“I made a good start and I think I passed maybe six riders in the first lap. I felt really comfortable for four laps and was enjoying the race and the battles. Then, from about lap five, the bike began sliding around a lot and I couldn’t keep up the pace. I think that the setup wasn’t perfect and that prevented me from pushing as hard as I wanted to. I feel we got a bit confused with the setup of the bike this weekend and that resulted in a loss of traction after a few laps. I am not happy with 19th, because I know that I could’ve done a lot better. It has not been an easy season, but we’ve got one more race to go and I want to end on a positive note.”
Nacho Calero – DNF
“My start was so-so and during the first three laps I managed to overtake three riders. I moved another two places up in the next couple of laps and was having some good battles with the other riders around me. But, after nine laps, I had a crash when the front closed in at the last corner. I picked the bike up and carried on but the fairing was too badly damaged, so I had to pull in. Fortunately I wasn’t injured but it was a disappointing and premature end my race.”
