Orelac Racing VerdNatura rider Tati Mercado started today’s race well down the grid, but battled his way up the field to take 13thplace at the end of 23 laps. Superpole 1 was a disaster this morning, with an electronic problem preventing him from doing more than one timed lap in the twenty-minute session. The team quickly changed a number of components to get round the problem and Tati was able to compete in the race without any further issues.
Tati – 13th
“I knew that I had to make a good start because I was so far down the grid because Superpole 1 did not go so well. When I went out for the first lap, I knew there was a problem, so I pulled in straightway. I just about got out again – towards the end of the session – but only managed one full timed lap.
My start was OK but, being way down the grid, it meant that I had to try and pass too many people, which is always difficult. After a few laps, my feeling was good and I was able to push hard. I knew I could lap faster than Jacobsen, but his bike could accelerate faster than mine, so it took some time before I could overtake him and make it stick. I then had a good fight with Ray and managed to pass him with five laps to go. I was catching Rinaldi at the end, but he was just that bit too far ahead. Hopefully, there will be no bike issues in tomorrow’s race and I can improve further.”
Giulio Bardi (Team Manager)
“I am happy with the result – especially considering how far down the grid he started from. With so many riders in front of him, it would’ve been hard getting a good rhythm, but his lap times were very good in the first part of the race. In the second part of the race, his lap times would’ve been good enough for a top 10 finish.
Today’s race was an indication that we have a good rider/team package – good enough to challenge for the top 10. Without the issues with some sensors in Superpole 1, who knows where he could’ve finished. Now we’ll sit down, analyse the data and see if we can fix the problem.”

TATI FIGHTS WAY TO 12TH.
Orelac Racing VerdNatura rider Tati Mercado fought his way to a superb 12th place despite starting a long way down the grid. The Argentinian made a good start and began to catch and pass riders throughout the 23-lapper but when he got up to 12thplace, the next group in front was too far ahead to catch and he could not advance any further.
TATI – 12th
“My start was good, but the problem is that when you start so far back down the grid, you lose so much time catching and passing the riders in front of you. It took some time to catch and pass Jacobsen and Ray and after them, the next group of riders were just that bit too far away to catch. It’s a bit disappointing because I know I could’ve done much better, if we had not have had the small problem in Superpole.
Today I had a good feeling with the bike and the acceleration out of the turns was much better. What we need is to have a good qualifying and not be so far down the grid. If we can do that I feel sure that I can challenge for the top ten.”
Giulio Bardi (Team Manager)
“If Tati had been further up the grid, he would’ve caught the next group and then the result would’ve been a different story. It’s a shame because his lap times were good enough for a top ten finish. Our problem is his position in qualifying and Superpole but, if we can sort that out, I am sure he can do much better.
Overall, I am happy and I am confident about the next round in Brno. We have tested there this season so we have an idea of the bike set-up. Hopefully that means that we can do better in qualifying and start the races from a much better grid position.”
