TATI IN THE POINTS
After a difficult couple of days, Orelac Racing VerdNatura rider Tati Mercado managed to get into the points in Race 1 in Imola this afternoon. As a consequence of yesterday’s loss of track time, Tati started today’s race from 16th position on the grid, so it was always going to be a hard race.
Tati – 15th
“Losing so much track time yesterday hurt us today. It’s never easy when you start so far down the grid especially at such a hard track as Imola. I made an OK start but when you are far from the front it’s difficult to overtake into the first corner. I entered behind Razgatlioglu, who was pushing very hard, but I thought if I could keep up with him we could catch the group in front. In some parts of the track I was a bit faster than him and in some parts he was faster than me. Towards the end of the race my rear tyre started going off and it was hard to keep the pace and, as a result, I got overtaken by Baz and Torres. I decided then it would be better to finish rather than risk a place or two and maybe crash and that’s what I did. For me it was important to finish so that we could get as much info as possible ahead of tomorrow’s race.”

“This morning’s twenty minute session was not enough to make up for all the time we lost yesterday, but we got some of the work done and came up with a decent plan for Superpole and the race. In this morning’s session and Superpole 1, Tati got some of his confidence back so we were hoping, maybe a bit optimistically, for a top ten finish. We knew that the potential was there, but it was important to bring the bike home and get as much info as possible for tomorrow’s race. I’m not disappointed with 15th and I think that tomorrow will be a better day.”

TATI TAKES A TOP TEN!
Orelac Racing VerdNatura rider Tati Mercado finished in the top ten in today’s WorldSBK race in Imola. His tenth place was a just reward for all the work he and the team put in this weekend after a difficult Friday when they lost so much track time.
Tati – 10th
“After losing so much time on Friday, I am happy with today’s result and it was good to score some decent points. It is a pity that we lost time on Friday because you really have to put in a lot of laps here at Imola if you want to do well.
In today’s race I made a reasonable start and then tried to match the pace of the group in front of me – Razgatlioglu, Laverty and Haslam. But they were about half a second quicker than me, so I tried to concentrate on my own pace and not make any mistakes.
It was a difficult race because my bike was losing out on acceleration out of the corners, so I had to ride on the limit in other places to keep in contention.
Considering how we started this weekend I am happy, but I know that it could’ve been better. We know we have work to do and hopefully we will have a better start in the next race weekend.”
Giulio Bardi (Team Manager)
“At the end of the day, all things considered, Tati has done well in both races. Today was better than yesterday because he’s had more track time. Today, he suffered a bit at about three-quarter race distance, but he still managed to hold off Baz’s challenge. He and the team have worked so hard this weekend and I am proud of the all the work they have done.”
