Orelac Racing VerdNatura rider Tati Mercado took a superb eighth place in Race 1 at Assen today. In front of a sun-baked crowd the Argentinian made a good start and was up to eleventh by the end of the first lap. He then forced his way up through the field and got up to eighth by lap fifteen and tried to chase down Baz in seventh place. But Baz was too far ahead, so Tati kept his position to take eighth.
Tati – 8th
“That was a hard, but enjoyable race. I made a good start and I began to push hard right from the beginning. The team had improved the feel of the brakes from yesterday and I was able to brake hard and that made a big difference. My rear tyre was on the limit for about the last five or six laps, especially on the right side, but I was determined not to lose my position.I feel that we have learned a lot about the bike this weekend and that understanding grows every time I go out. I would like to say a big thank you to the team for all their hard work and also to Kawasaki for all their help. Today’s result was very good, but it also shows that we are improving and that is a good thing.”
Michelle Ducoli (Tati Mercado Crew Chief)
“Considering that this is Tati’s first year with Kawasaki I am happy that we have got such a good result so soon. Our understanding of the bike grows with every session and we are improving for sure. Today’s result is fantastic for all of us in Orelac and hopefully there will be more like this to come.”

TATI CRASHES OUT WHILST SEVENTH!
Orelac Racing VerdNatura rider Tati Mercado was on course for another superb top eight finish in WorldSBK Race 2 today, but crashed out of contention whilst on the sixth lap. Fortunately he was not injured, but the bike suffered too much damage for Tati to re-mount and carry on.
Tati – DNF, 5 laps
“This morning we tried a different set-up to see if we could conserve the tyres better, but I didn’t like the feeling of the bike so we went back to yesterday’s set-up. I made a good start to the race and was soon up to sixth place and pushing hard. The front group was already too far away to catch, so I tried to concentrate on my position and see if I could get further up the field. I was having a bit of a problem getting good acceleration out of the corners, so maybe I was trying a bit too hard into the turns. Going into the chicane on lap 6, I changed my line a little, lost the front end and crashed. It was a big shame because I am sure I would have easily finished in the top ten and got some more decent points. I would like to say sorry to my team for the crash, because I know I have given them a lot of work to do now. The positive note is that we have improved the feeling with the bike. We know the strengths and the weaknesses better and we have a much greater understanding of which direction to take to make further improvements. Thank you to the team, Kawasaki, Motul, Showa and all our supporters for all their help and here’s to the next race.”
Giulio Bardi (Team Manager)
“I think we can take a certain satisfaction for how the weekend has gone. We were on the second row of the grid today and I think that, together with the performance yesterday (and how we were doing until the crash) shows that we can fight with the big boys. We are definitely understanding the bike more and more and improving all the time. There is still a lot more work to do, but we are happy that we are going in the right direction and looking forward to more good results.”
