Orelac Racing VerdNatura rider rode superbly in today’s race at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve and finished just outside the top ten after 20 gruelling laps. Tati started the race from the sixth row and fought his way through the field up to tenth after thirteen laps, but just lost out to Lowes on the very last lap.
TATI – 11th
“That was a mixed day, ending with a very tough race. We had a problem with a tyre in Superpole 1 just before I was going out for my fast lap. Unfortunately, there was not enough time to get out again before the end of the session.
I started the race in 16thplace and moved up two positions by the end of the first lap. I kept fighting my way through field, getting into eleventh after eight laps. I then had a big fight with Rinaldi and we swapped places a few times. I moved into the top ten after twelve laps and stayed there until the very last lap when I was overtaken by Lowes.
I think today was a good chance to finish ninth. If that had happened then I would’ve been on the second row of the grid tomorrow (because of the reverse grid system) and that would have been very interesting. I need to have another good race tomorrow and maybe push a bit harder. If the weather is the same, then it is going be a long 20-laps, but it’s going to be 20 laps that I am looking forward to and maybe a top ten finish.”
Giulio Bardi (Team Manager)
“Considering where Tati started today’s race, I think he did pretty well. It’s never easy starting a race from way down the grid, but he did very well to pick up as many places as he did.
And it all could have been better. We made a mistake in Superpole 1 and that compromised Tati’s final exit, when he was about to go out for his fast lap. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to rectify the mistake and get him out before Superpole 1 finished. So, in the end, his qualifying lap was done on a race tyre. Tati made a good start and ran an intelligent race. He was knocking on the top ten door and maybe a bit more, but lost out on the last lap.”

TATI STRUGGLES WITH GRIP PROBLEMS
In today’s Race 2 at Portimao, Orelac Racing VerdNatura rider Tati Mercado ended the day in 15thposition after struggling with rear grip problems. He had suffered similarly yesterday, but today’s higher temperatures exacerbated the problem and he couldn’t push as hard as he would have liked.
TATI – 15th
“I am disappointed with the race today because, after yesterday, I was expecting more. We have struggled a bit with the rear grip all weekend but the track temperature was much higher today and that made the problem worse.
My start was OK, but all race I found it difficult to keep up with the pace of the group around me. I managed to get a point, but really it should’ve been more.”
Giulio Bardi (Team Manager)
“For sure, grip was a problem in today’s race. It was not our best race of the season, but it wasn’t a disaster. I don’t think the result today reflected all the hard work we have all put in this weekend and at the recent tests here.
We did learn something more about the electronics this weekend and we will put that knowledge to good use next time out in Magny-Cours. I have a feeling that it will be a more friendly track for us and I think we can get some good results there.”
