Orelac Racing VerdNatura rider Fahmi Khairuddin took a superb eighth place in the third round of the World Supersport Championship in Motorland Aragon today. Fahmi was 17th on the grid but made a good start and was 10th after the first lap. He then moved up through the order to fourth place after seven laps, before arm-pump slowed him down. He managed to stay in contention, but was passed by four riders as the race wore on and finished eighth.
Nacho started the race from the seventh row of the grid and was 23rd at the end of lap one after running wide in turn three. He recovered and fought his way up through the field to take a very creditable 15th at the end of the16-lap race.
Fahmi Khairuddin – 8th
“My start was quite good and I was 10th at the end of the first lap and feeling very happy. I made some more progress and managed to get into fourth position at one stage. Then I began to have a little problem with my arm. The rear was spinning a lot and I was pushing very hard and, because this bike is heavier than the bike I rode last year, I think this caused my arm problem. As I get more used to the bike, I am sure that this problem will be less and I really think that I am not far from a podium place. I will keep training and working hard and I’m sure we’ll make good progress.”
Nacho Calero – 15th
“I am happy because I have scored my first championship points and I have done it in my home race. My start was quite good, but I got in a bit too hot at turn three and lost some places and was 23rd at the end of lap one. Then I had to fight my way back and, as the race went on, I gradually started started picking up places. I had some good battles and got up to 15th just one lap from the end, which was a good reward for all the work I had put in during the race.”
Giulio Bardi (Team Manager)
“I fell that it has been a good day for us. We’re all getting to know the bikes better, but I can see that we are making progress. Fahmi showed that he can run with the top guys and once he understands the bike better I am sure a podium is not a dream. Nacho did a very positive race today and pushed hard to get his first points of the season. We leave Aragon with a better position in the championship and with more knowledge of the bike and how we can improve it.”
Jose Calero (Team Owner)
“I am very happy today, especially as the start of the weekend was not so good. In the end, everything came together well and I now know that we are competitive. I am sure that Fahmi is capable of getting a podium soon. Nacho is continuing to improve every time he gets on the bike. The whole team is working well and that makes me very happy.”
